Here are some of the ways local government in the Coastal Bend can protect our bays and estuaries the health of our families.

  1. The Corpus Christi City Council can vote to withdraw the permits for the 2 proposed seawater desalination plants which are at the initial permitting stages. Water rate payers in seven counties are impacted by the Council’s action.
  2. The Corpus Christi City Council and the Commissioners Court of Nueces County and San Patricio County can appoint members of the Port Commission. They can instruct their appointees to withdraw the permits for the Port’s 2 proposed seawater desalination plants. If their appointees refuse, the Council and Commissioners Courts can appoint new Port Commissioners.
  3. City and county elected officials can vote down subsidies, oppose tax abatements and make these corporations pay their fair share towards essential services and infrastructure such as roads and safe drinking water.
  4. The City Council of Corpus Christi can re-negotiate existing Industrial District Agreements that give tax breaks to petrochemical facilities.
